Current Areas of deficiency (AoD) to Metropolitan and Borough level Sites of Importance to Nature Conservation (SINCs) are illustrated below.
These are areas identified as lacking easy public access to sites of nature importance. They take into account the top two tiers of SINCs, Metropolitan and Borough level sites. Find out more about SINCs here
The London Plan encourages the reduction of AoDs to nature:
| Chapter 7 London's Living Spaces and Places, 7.61 " …Access to nature can be an important contributor to people’s health and the Mayor wants to see better access to both existing and new wildlife habitats and has identified priorities to redress areas of deficiency. [see: Mayor of London. Improving Londoners’ Access to Nature. GLA 2008 ]" |
Like all regionally important data sets, AoDs to Nature undergo periodic review. This is particularly important for these areas as they can help to measure and steer efforts to increase public access to nature.
This current dataset is due for a review soon, on which we will be collaborating with the London boroughs and the London Wildlife Sites Partnership. Changes will be mapped here as soon as they are available.
