Protected species

Within our data management systems we are able to partition those species records that have a legally protected status.

This is useful for data users who are engaging with the planning process to be aware of previous sightings as a context for further investigation.

For more information about legally protection visit Natural England's pages or about local Biodiversity Action Plans visit London Biodiversity Partnership's pages.

Protection designations that we can highlight are:

- EC Habitats Directive (Annexes II and IV)- EC Birds Directive (Annex I)

Confidential species

Our fundamental principle is towards making all records available, but in some cases it is appropriate to limit disclosure of detail.

We have developed a list of species, in conjunction with expert recorders, that
are not passed on to non-partners at full location resolution (read more about access
to data in
policies).  These are often species that are sensitive because of rarity or threat
of persecution.
