At GiGL we are celebrating entering record number three million into the species database!

The record in question was one riband wave moth (Idaea aversata) from a large London Natural History Society dataset of moth records digitised by GiGL and verified by County Moth Recorder, Colin Plant.  This dataset was one of several recently added to the database that have helped us reach our new landmark total.

Reaching three million is a pleasing achievement for us and particularly thanks to our records officers, who manage our data entry.  Most importantly, it is a milestone that represents the tremendous effort and enthusiasm of naturalists and ecologists who study and record wildlife across London. These records of wildlife capture momentary observations in the field and create a long-lasting legacy of information about our natural environment for the future.
