GiGL operates in a world where data are increasingly being generated, shared and innovatively used to address questions and communicate concepts across different sectors.

In the words of the Open Data Institute “this ‘World of Data’ is beginning to be defined by three different types of data: Open / Shared / Closed”.

In November we attended the ODI Summit and learned about their vision of a standardised language for discussing data and how it is shared.  We would like to share their video about this with you which explains the access to data spectrum.

The datasets that GiGL manage are mostly Shared and some are Open or have an Open version, none are Closed, though we sometimes work with Closed datasets belonging to partners to deliver projects directly for them.
