How and when to survey

For any survey, it is important to collect reliable data. The methodology and the frequency of recording vary according to the target species or groups and therefore these are discussed in detail under the individual survey pages.

However, one general rule does apply across all taxonomic groups; for ongoing biological recording purposes, it is essential that the methodology is repeatable so that like for like comparisons can be undertaken, and that the same methods are followed each time the same area is surveyed.
