Data search report service

These Terms and Conditions are for our data search report service.

Terms and conditions

By submitting an order, you are agreeing to be bound by the following terms and conditions:

  1. The data provided within the report is for the internal use of your organisation (which includes the client where applicable) to inform understanding of the site of interest for 1 year.
  2. The data provided must not be distributed or published for an external or public audience, for example within the appendix of a report. Local Planning Authorities may request a copy of the data from GiGL either via their Service Level Agreement (most boroughs are GiGL partners) or as a data search.

Disclaimers

  • The data search report includes summarised and interpreted information from data held by GiGL. Other data sources, including MAGIC and the NBN Atlas should also be consulted during a desk study. We aim to absorb all useful data into our services, including via privileged access to data within the NBN, but there may be a time lag. Please check the licence terms of each resource to ensure data are available for commercial use.
  • GiGL does not attach a financial value to the data it manages, nor does it pay for or provide a reduced fee in return for access to data from third parties. None of the charges are based on any real or implied financial value of the data that we provide access to on behalf of the data owners.
  • The charges for the data search reports are administrative charges and charges towards data stewardship (i.e. quality assurance, collation, secure archiving, communication, management) which includes all the work involved after data collection to make the data available to end users.
  • Data held by GiGL go through a rigorous validation and verification process. However, we are not responsible for the accuracy of third party data in the data search reports.
  • The report is compiled using data held by GiGL at the time of the request. GiGL takes the accuracy of our data holdings very seriously and the GiGL Advisory Panel is set up to help with this important task to ensure what we provide to you is the best data possible for your needs.
  • Statutory citations are legal documents, the content of which is fixed and true at the time of designation. Species referred to in the citations may not be present on site today. Citations may have been written based on data not held by GiGL.
  • The boundaries and site grades of SINCs and pSINCs reflect the most recent consideration of each site, details of which are available from London borough councils. Note that boundaries and grades may change as new information becomes available.
  • The content of SINC and pSINC citations is reviewed periodically and species referred to in the citations may not be present on site today. Citations may have been written based on data not held by GiGL.
  • There are currently very few formal survey and monitoring programmes in London, so GiGL does not currently hold species, habitat, open space data for all areas. Species records are specific to the date of recording and do not imply the continuance of the species at the site. The most recent record of key species is included regardless of when it was generated to act as an alert to inform your work. The absence of evidence for a given area cannot be used to infer evidence of absence, the area may simply not have been surveyed. Our long-term aim as a social enterprise is to invest our profits into a rigorous survey and monitoring programme to update and improve the resource in collaboration with our partners.
