Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Occupation Lane, Kew Railway Bridge
Borough: Richmond upon Thames
Grade: Borough Grade II
Access: Free public access (part of site)
Area: 1.39 ha

Description

This is a small area of woodland, including nearby railsides and verges on Occupation Lane. There is public access to Occupation Lane, but not to the rest of the site.

Wildlife

This site is of importance for the rare Thames, or two-lipped, door snail. This tiny mollusc is known from only a handful of sites in Britain, most of them along the River Thames in west London. The woodland, mostly of sycamore, has been set aside as a reserve specifically for the snail. It also occurs on the verges of Occupation Lane.
