Project description

Broadway Fields is a priority park in Lewisham’s Parks and Open Space Strategy – prioritised for improvement works to improve factors such as amenity value and biodiversity as it currently features expansive amenity grassland and old park facilities. Another priority in the park is to improve the river corridor, which has concrete-lined banks and channel bed. Therefore, there is big potential to significantly improve this site through restoration interventions such as concrete removal, creating a multi-stage channel, re-meandering, bank reprofiling, input of large wood and native species planting. This will lead to the improvement of many ecosystem services including reduced flood risk downstream around the highly important A2 road and at buildings and services near to Lewisham College.
