Description
Wildlife
Lamorbey Lake is a large ornamental lake supporting varied aquatic vegetation, including alder, willows, sedges, reed sweet-grass, reed canary-grass, meadowsweet, amphibious bistort, common skull-cap and celery-leaved buttercup. Notable plants include common spike-rush, marsh-marigold, spiked water-milfoil and lesser pondweed. Gorse can be found to the east of the lake. The grassland and scrub communities are dominated by oak, elm and sweet chestnut. The ground flora includes fescues, common bent, early hair-grass, mouse-ear-hawkweed, pignut and sheep's sorrel. Locally-scarce creeping St John's-wort was previously recorded on the site, but has not been seen recently. On the eastern side of the golf course is a broad band of woodland dominated by sweet chestnut, some of which is probably ancient. Parts of this woodland are wet and support willows and alder. Scattered broom can be found on the golf course, as well as a willow carr with wetlands, although this was heavily overgrown with floating pennywort in 2016. Breeding bird species present include great spotted and green woodpeckers, nuthatch, grey and pied wagtails, coot, moorhen, mallard, mute swan an probably kingfisher. The park also supports a population of stag beetles. Invasive species recorded on the site include cherry laurel, Turkey oak, holm oak, rhododendron, false acacia and Spanish bluebells.Facilities
