Description
Wildlife
The field to the north is dominated by Yorkshire fog and tufted hair-grass, along with meadow foxtail, common couch and occasional giant fescue. Wildflowers include great willowherb, red clover and tufted vetch. There is also extensive bramble scrub and occasional field maple trees. A feature of the field is the vast number of grasshoppers, of several different species. Meadow brown, gatekeeper and common blue butterflies can also be found here.Scrub, scattered trees and grassland encircle the east of the hospital buildings and border Park Wood (part of Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve) and Haste Hill Golf Course to the northwest. The field to the southwest of the hospital has abundant crested dog's-tail grass, as well as pineappleweed, common centaury, smooth tare and small melilot. Its southern aspect and bare soil at the sides of paths provide nesting sites for burrowing insects. Pedunculate oaks, dog rose and common hawthorns grow on the southern edge, probably remnants of an old hedge.Facilities
