Description

Bromley-by-Bow Gas Works was built between 1870 and 1873 by the Imperial Gas, Light & Coke Company. The advent of natural gas from the North Sea led to its decline and gas production ceased in 1976. The Memorial Garden commemorates the people who worked on the site and died in the two World Wars. At the eastern end of the Memorial Garden is a small woodland.

Wildlife

The canopy is dominated by sycamore, with a few horse chestnut, lime, pear and poplar trees. Beneath these are elder, hawthorn and various remnants from the landscaped garden, including mulberry and fig. The ground flora is dominated by bramble, nettle and cow parsley.
