Brockley and Ladywell Cemetery was two separate cemeteries, opened within one month of each other in 1858 on adjacent plots of previously open land, until 1948. The site is now a nature conservation site and a haven for wildlife, plants and wildflowers. The cemeteries hold a wealth of historical interest with evidence of Deptford’s seafaring past to be found in the many inscriptions and adornments on the headstones.
