Bell's Hill Burial Ground
Borough: Barnet
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 3.31 ha

Description

This small late-Victorian cemetery is a pleasant spot for a quiet stroll, with quite a rural feel. Its western half, where recent burials are concentrated, has neatly mown lawns and well-tended plots of flowers around the graves.

Wildlife

In the eastern half of the cemetery a lighter management approach is taken, allowing the blooming of wildflowers such as common knapweed, Lady's bedstraw, tufted vetch, meadow vetchling and common bird's-foot trefoil. In wilder corners, tangles of bramble and roses scramble over the tombs. This is an excellent site for butterflies, with gatekeeper, small skipper and meadow brown amongst the summer residents.
