Wildlife

The river has little aquatic vegetation apart from some reed sweet-grass, growing along the river's edge to the west of Hangar Lane. However, exposed banks of sediment deposited by the river attract numerous grey wagtails, and are likely to support insects. Moorhens and mallards are also found here. At the top of the banks is much scrub and scattered trees, consisting of bramble, sycamore, dogwood, hawthorn, hazel, buddleia, alder and osier. Other plants include rosebay willowherb, ivy, purple toadflax, honeysuckle and Japanese rose.Abbey Estate Open Space is an area of amenity grassland and scattered trees, including hazel, dogwood, silver birch and field maple.
