Description
Wildlife
Three small, mostly wet woodlands make up this site. The River Shuttle runs near to Parish and Hollyoak Woods and Wyncham Stream runs past Beverley Wood. Parish Wood is the driest and contains mainly oak and ash. The wetter Beverley Wood consists mainly of crack willow while Hollyoak Wood, also wet, is mainly of coppiced alder. At ground-level you can find bramble, bluebell, violets, meadowsweet, wood-sedge, dog's-mercury and wood anemone. Notable plants include square-stalked St John's-wort. The three woods are also important for their local bird communities, including sparrowhawks. A pond and meadow were created in 2010 immediately south of the woodland in Parish Wood, and these add to the habitats of the site along with the semi-improved grassland areas to the south with scattered trees and wild cherry dominated scrub. Sneezewort and greater bird's-foot-trefoil grow in damp grassland beside the pond. Some invasive non-native species were recorded in 2016, including buddleia and cherry laurel at Beverley Wood and goat's rue next to the pond at Parish Wood.Facilities
