Wildlife

This species-rich wasteland site contains several successional stages including bare earth, ruderal communities, grassland and scrubland. Notable plant species include thyme-leaved sandwort and narrow-leaved birdsfoot-trefoil. Breeding birds include skylark and a large population of whitethroats. The site supports large flocks of finches and other seed-eating birds in winter, particularly chaffinch, linnet, skylark, meadow pipit, goldfinch and house sparrow. It also supports a diverse assemblage of invertebrates including emperor dragonfly, banded demoiselle, red-tailed bumblebee and small skipper. Bee-orchid is also found on the site. A small wetland marsh in the south of the site supports a good population of common spike-rush.
