Borough: Bexley

Area: 5.3 ha

Description

The Ridgeway is a linear footpath on the bank of the Southern Outfall Sewer with a good range of habitats. It connects pedestrians and cyclists with north and south Thamesmead and is popular with walkers. The Ridgeway was refurbished in Bexley in 2017, with the track resurfaced and access improved.

Wildlife

The Ridgeway is vegetated with a mosaic of rough grassland, bramble, scrub and woodland, with more mature woodland on the embankment of Eastern Way. It supports good numbers of breeding birds, including blackcap, whitethroat, lesser whitethroat and chiffchaff. It is an important component of the wildlife habitat in this part of Thamesmead, and is surrounded by the SINCs of Erith Marshes, Southmere Park, Crossway Park and Thamesview Golf Course.
