Much of the woodland on this site is likely to be ancient, being remnants of the former extensive Camden Wood recorded on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map in the 1870s. Apart from the woodland, the site also has a small stream and hedgerows alongside the Green Chain Walk. Areas in the south of the site are fenced-off because they are privately owned or because they have been set aside to provide a bird sanctuary.

Wildlife
Whyte's Woodland canopy is dominated by tall-grown oak, with yew, hazel, holly, birch and regenerating oak saplings pushing up from below. Bramble dominates at ground-level but the London notable species golidlocks buttercup is present.To the north of Walden Recreation Ground is a sizeable slice of regenerated woodland, quite dense in places. The stream is in the west of the site. This mosaic of habitats is of value to birds and other animals.Facilities
