Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Farnborough Common
Borough: Bromley
Grade: Borough Grade II
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 3.55 ha

Description

This site is an attractive remnant of a common that was once much larger. It is divided into two by the busy A21 and is accessible from surrounding roads.

Wildlife

The much larger western part includes a small area of acid grassland, where the London notable species dwarf gorse is found. The area supports a good variety of waxcap fungi in late autumn. The rest of the site is secondary woodland, with some fine mature pedunculate oaks along the western boundary.
