Borough: Croydon
Grade: Borough Grade I
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)

Description

This park is on the area previously occupied by the old Woodside Brickworks, and as a consequence is quite varied. The ponds on the site hold water for the nearby housing developments, before it feeds into the River Ravensbourne via Chaffinch Brook and the Pool River to the River Ravensbourne. The pond is one of the few areas of open water in central Croydon. The surrounding open space is being managed for nature conservation.

Wildlife

The larger pond has a population of mare's-tail, a rare plant in London. There are also good populations of common dragonflies, damselflies and common frog, common toad and smooth newt.
