Area: 8.48 ha

Description

A good-sized wood set on a slope, this site is noted for its display of bluebells in May, when the flowers form a blue carpet under the trees. In 1969 a reservoir in the middle of the wood was filled in and demolished.

Wildlife

The canopy of the wood is mostly of oak and ash. There is a line of beech trees along the eastern boundary. Over the chalk sub-soils, the more interesting plant species at ground level include early dog-violet and sanicle. During May, the wood has a fantastic display of bluebells. A number of interesting birds have been recorded at the site, including breeding nuthatch, spotted flycatcher, stock dove and chiffchaff.
