Duke of Northumberland's River at Isleworth
Borough: Hounslow
Grade: Borough Grade I
Access: Free public access (part of site)
Area: 1.78 ha

Description

This site follows the 400 metre section of the river, just before its junction with the River Thames. It also passes Silverhall Park, to which there is free public access.

Wildlife

This length of the river has an excellent aquatic plant community. Cyperus sedge and sea club-rush, both scarce in London, are found here. Other species include water dock, great pond-sedge, purple loosestrife and water-pepper. Where the river passes through Silverhall Park, the northern bank is wooded. Opposite is mostly parkland with some fine mature sweet chestnut, oak and yew trees. Both kingfisher and grey wagtail can be seen here.
