Wildlife

Hatton meadows is good for winter bird flocks including skylark, reed bunting, chaffinch, bullfinch and meadow pipit. Little owl and kestrel both nest locally and use the site for hunting. Winter flooding on the southern part of the site leads to ephemeral ponds used by teal, mallard and grey heron. The grasslands also hold a good variety of insect species with butterflies such as small heath, meadow brown and common blue in some numbers. Other insects include Roesel's bush-cricket and long-winged conehead.
