Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Loughborough Park
Borough: Lambeth
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 1.9 ha

Description

This parkland area lies within an Area of Deficiency in Access to Nature and contains a large number of scattered trees and several planted shrubberies much used by local people.

Wildlife

Some of the planted shrubberies have developed into non-native hedgerows. The abundance of trees and shrubs provides good habitat for birds which include great spotted woodpecker and possibly breeding blackcap. Some areas of the amenity grasslands have a more relaxed mowing regime which have resulted in a better floristic display which includes some perforate St. john's wort, common knapweed, hoary ragwort, small-flowered crane's-bill and spotted medick amongst the more common amenity grassland plants.
