Description
Wildlife
This old village churchyard is located right on the edge of a href="PublicSiteView.do?siteid=7908"Morden Park. Churches dedicated to St Lawrence are usually Saxon in origin and there was possibly a wooden church here before the Norman Conquest. It would have been rebuilt after the Conquest and was rebuilt again in the 1630s, an unusual time for church building. St Lawrence's is a typical, but well kept churchyard and vicarage garden. There are a fair number of, mostly non-native, trees and shrubs present. The grassland has a variety of flowers, and grasshoppers and yellow meadow-ant are also present. Additionally, the site is attractive to a variety of butterflies. Birds recorded here include siskin, bullfinch, song thrush and tawny owl.
