Description

A small isolated remnant of nearby Hainault Forest, this site comprises oak and hornbeam woodland together with areas of grassland and scrub. There have been a number of exotic species planted in the woodland.The site is Redbridge’s first Local Nature Reserve, and has a well established environmental education function. The original Lodge was pulled down but remains of the gardens and orchards still exist, and the latter are particularly interesting for a large black mulberry growing there.

Wildlife

The woodland ground flora is diverse and includes bluebell, wild service-trees, butchers broom and pignut.There are a number of species of butterflies here, including purple hairstreaks.
