Woodford Green, although technically part of Epping Forest, is made up mostly of acid grassland. There are also three ponds on the green and a small fragment of woodland on the site of the old hospital.

Wildlife
The grassland is rich in wildflowers, including spiny restharrow which is rare in London. The pond on the north green and the larger pond on the opposite side of the main road both have breeding waterfowl.The smallest pond is well vegetated with a rich water plant community. Species include broad-leaved pondweed, rigid hornwort, ivy-leaved duckweed, water mint, jointed rush and many other plants growing out of the water. Several species of dragonfly occur here.Facilities
