This former playing field, completely surrounded by housing, is now a community nature garden, managed largely by local people through the Pensford Field Environment Trust. Access is by arrangement with the Trust. This is an excellent example of constructive use of a backland site, benefitting wildlife and the local community.

Description
Wildlife
A variety of native tree species have been planted around the edges of the field. Wooden fences and a stile at the entrance help give the site a 'cared-for' semi-wild appearance. The grassland, formerly dominated by rye-grass has been reseeded and is now dominated by red fescue, with wildflowers such as common and greater knapweeds, oxeye daisy and common vetch. Common stork's-bill, a remnant of the natural flora of the site, survives next to the large mound of earth near the entrance. A pond has been created in the southwest of the site, and includes soft rush and meadowsweet on its margins.Facilities
