Description
Wildlife
Sycamore (Acer pseudoplatanus) dominates but ash (Fagus sylvatica) is regenerating quickly after the Great Storm of 1987, and there are also young oaks (Quercus sp), elder (Sambucus nigra), hazel (Corylus avellana) and holly (Ilex aquilifolium). Bats have been seen feeding over the wood and long-tailed tits, bullfinches and blackcaps all breed here, along with the commoner woodland birds. Visiting birds have included spotted flycatchers, cuckoos and green woodpeckers, and kestrels have bred here. Management of the site has returned to the owners, so the wildflower areas formerly kept open by local volunteers are scrubbing over but you can still find mallow (Malva sp), wild mignonette (Resedea lutea) and rose-bay willowherb (Chamaenerium angustifolium) in the clearings.Facilities
