Foxbury Wood
Borough: Bromley
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 0.91 ha

Description

This small wood, surrounded by suburban housing, is all that remains of a once larger woodland, both ends of which have been built on. The wood is popular for informal recreation.

Wildlife

The canopy of ash and pedunculate oak rises above a shrub layer of hawthorn with field maple and hazel. A patch of Norway maple and lime is found at the west end of the site. The ground flora is dominated by ivy, and also contains wood anemone, bluebell, dog's mercury and wood melick, perhaps suggesting an ancient origin. The site supports a range of common birds including chaffinch, wren, blackbird and song thrush.
