Heavers Meadow and Norbury Brook
Borough: Croydon
Grade: Borough Grade II
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 3.43 ha

Description

Lying within a bend in the railway line between Selhurst Park and Norwood Junction, this site comprises a meadow and a brook that runs northwest along its southern edge. The brook absorbs major runoff from nearby roads and hard surfaces, leaving it prone to flash flooding.

Wildlife

Around the brook is marshy grassland with crested dog's-tail, marsh foxtail, creeping bent, both hard and soft rushes, yellow iris, false-fox and hairy sedge, and common nettle. There are also a few crack willow trees, alongside planted exotics. The brook suffers to a certain extent from pollution from road runoff, and the Heavers Meadow area is heavily used by dog walkers.
