Coombe Wood actually consists of two small woodlands situated either side of the A3 (Kingston by-pass). The Beverley Brook flows north along the edge of Coombe Wood East, and eventually into Wimbledon Common. Only the narrow section to the east of the Beverley Brook is in Merton, with the rest of the site lying in Kingston upon Thames.

Wildlife
Coombe Wood East mainly consists of younger, secondary woodland. Its open structure supports a varied ground flora, including bluebell and wood anemone. Coombe Wood West is much older than its neighbour, and consists mainly of oak, sycamore, ash, coppiced hazel and rhododendron, which is very invasive. Uncommon shrubs include alder buckthorn and wayfaring tree. The Beverley Brook is heavily shaded here and largely without plant life.Breeding birds include great spotted woodpecker and long-tailed tit.Facilities
