Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

St John the Evangelist Churchyard, Stanmore Park
Borough: Harrow
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 1.07 ha

Description

Although adjacent to a busy road and a new housing estate, this attractive churchyard retains a great deal of rural character, with the presence of the ruined original church adding to its atmosphere.

Wildlife

The ruined original church may be a resource used by the bats which occur at the site. Tufted hair-grass and grey sedge both grow in the cemetery. Scrub provides shelter for birds and the larger native trees are likely to be valuable for their insect fauna.
