Memorial Recreation Ground is mainly laid to playing fields (some for casual use, some available for hire) with a wildflower meadow and a play area that includes a sandpit and some wheelchair accessible play equipment. An innovative building with an undulating turf-covered roof, designed by Eger Architects with Ove Arup, provides community facilities and a cafe. At the centre of the site is a memorial to those who lost their lives during the launch of cruiser HMS Albion in 1898 that also commemorates the park as the site of West Ham United FC’s first home stadium.
