Description

This site consists of several fields, some of which are intermittently grazed, and two small areas of woodland. The larger of these is Wentworth Hall Wood, on the northern edge of the site. The other lies in the southwest of the site.

Wildlife

The grassland contains a fair diversity of grasses and wild flowers. These include species typical of old pasture, such as crested dog's-tail, oval sedge and lady's bedstraw. Wetter areas contain tufted hair-grass, greater bird's-foot-trefoil and great horsetail. Scrub of hawthorn, elder and bramble is invading the ungrazed fields. The canopy of Wentworth Hall Wood is dominated by pedunculate oak and ash. The lower-growing trees include common and Midland hawthorns, yew, holly and elder. The ground layer is dominated by bramble and ivy. The other strip of woodland is mainly of oak and sycamore.
