Six hectares of Recreation Ground. The main entrance is in Cross Ways, with another in Towncourt Crescent. A campaign was started by influential residents to buy this land thus saving it from being sold to developers, and in 1927 Willett Recreation Ground was opened. William Willett, who lived in Petts Wood, was a builder and campaigner for the Petts Wood locality. In recognition of all the tireless work that Willett did for the area, residents named the park in his honour. Willett is most well known for proposing the ‘Daylight Saving Hour’, which was adopted in 1916 after his death. We still abide by Daylight Saving time to this day.
