Dukes Meadows is a large sports playing area running down to the Thames, with football pitches and tennis courts. The modern playground comprises of two multi-play areas and swings for the over 5’s and swings for the under 5’s. There is also a climbing frame for over 9’s and seating for adults is provided.In 1923, 230 acres of land adjacent to the river Thames, were purchased from the Duke of Devonshire by Chiswick Council. The land purchased included the area known as Duke’s Meadows. Popular with local people, it provides a pleasant environment beside its river to walk, cycle or jog. The Meadows consist mainly of mown grass as the Gardens laid out in the early days have now gone. There is a riverside promenade, which has a bandstand and a pavilion to and from the promenade. The Friends of Dukes Meadow run a popular Farmers Market in front of the Changing Rooms, which are shortly to be converted to artists studios. A waterpark will be opened during 2006.
