Previously known as Spring Gardens, following improvements this space was renamed Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens after the original gardens on this site (1661-1859). The improvements added to the existing network of paths, grass mounds and trees with new tree planting, upgraded paths and areas of meadow grassland, many containing swathes of colourful spring-flowering bulbs. A multi-use games area with lighting was also added, as well as two large, monumental columns framing views into and out of the site, which are topped by two outline figures in 17th Century dress celebrating the spirit of the original Pleasure Gardens at the entrance onto Kennington Lane.
