Description

The grounds consist of parkland with mature trees surrounding Avenue House, an important Grade 2 Listed cultural building in Finchley. The son of Henry Stephens, the inventor of writing ink, once owned it. There is a children’s playground on the site, with some equipment suitable for children with disabilities.

Wildlife

The house is set in attractive parkland featuring an arboretum with many fine old evergreen trees, extensive shrubberies, lawns and an ornamental pond. The wildlife interest lies mainly in the site's birdlife, with great spotted woodpecker, greenfinch, great tit, robin and wren regularly seen. Grey squirrels abound in the woodland and frogs breed in the pond.
