Description

Roundwood Park is a vital amenity to people living in Harlesden. It was opened as park in 1895, at which time some 14,500 trees were planted. It has long been considered the Brent showpiece park. Willesden New Cemetery lies immediately to the north and dates from 1891. This site also includes the Liberal Jewish Cemetery between Willesden and Harlesden.Brent Healthy Walkers use this site – a Walking the Way to Health (WHI) scheme; see link for details.

Wildlife

Roundwood Park has some fine trees including oak, London plane, hybrid black poplar, lime, false acacia, ash and horse-chestnut. Just inside the main gate are two attractive small ponds.Willesden New Cemetery has some attractive grassland, where oxeye daisy is the most obvious of the wild flowers. Creeping cinquefoil and selfheal are also present throughout. Other flowers include bird's-foot trefoil, dove's-foot crane's-bill, purple toadflax, hop trefoil and bittersweet. The uncommon creeping jenny is also found here, and rarer still is spiked sedge. Gatekeeper and meadow brown butterflies can be seen in summer.The Liberal Jewish Cemetery includes the site of a former nursery, now dominated by false rough grassland and scrub. On its eastern side is a prominent row of Lombardy poplars.
