Description

This site is made up of a number of woodland areas spread over a large area. It includes Round Wood, Cherry Tree Shaw, Shepherds Shaw, Home Wood and Long Coppice. These are ancient woodlands of various sizes, some linked by strips of woodland and hedgerows. Access is on public footpaths only.

Wildlife

Long Coppice is the largest wood of the complex, and is dominated by outgrown coppice of ash and birch, with oak and beech standards. It has a varied structure, including flower-rich glades of bluebells with nettle-leaved bellflower, wood anemone, sanicle, moschatel and scaly male-fern. The smaller woodlands boast the presence of lady-fern and ramsons amongst the carpets of bluebells.
