Description

Jail Lane Orchard is a small former orchard comprising scrub and grasslands.

Wildlife

The site is dominated by mixed scrub and young planted trees of pedunculate oak, ash and field maple. The scrub comprises a number of fruit-bearing species such as blackthorn, wild plum and wild cherry, as well as two medlar. This scrub attracts fruit eating birds such as song thrush and bullfinch, an increasingly scarce species which favours orchards.
