Description

St Mary’s is a small wooded churchyard with a small glade.

Wildlife

The main woody species are sycamore, yew, elder, holly and hawthorn. Native shrubs including field maple and hazel have been planted in recent years. Cow parsley and wood avens occur in the ground layer. A small glade is kept open in the centre, greatly adding to the usefulness of the site for many forms of wildlife. It will be important to ensure that this glade remains open in order to conserve this wildlife interest. In the open areas, wildflowers such as cat's-ear, autumn hawkbit and germander speedwell can be found.
