Wildlife

The grassland in this park is allowed to grow long to benefit wildlife. It is not particularly rich in plant species but supports good populations of invertebrates such as butterflies, ants and grasshoppers. The main grasses in the sward include Yorkshire-fog, soft-brome, creeping bent and common couch. Some of the herbs in the grassland include common vetch, hairy tare, ribwort plantain and oxeye daisy. The site backs on to the Maypole Dock branch of the Grand Union Canal which enhances its value for invertebrates that use both water and grassland habitats.
