Description

Hackney City Farm lies at the southern edge of Haggerston Park and the two represent an important nature and educational site in this area of London. Hackney City Farm was established in 1984 on the site of a derelict lorry park, and provides contact with animals and nature for schoolchildren and other local people. There is a cafe at the farm which serves award-winning organic food. Both park and city farm are well used by local people. Haggerston Park won a Green Flag Award again for 2020.

Wildlife

The park itself contains the best pond in Hackney borough. The pond has dense vegetation around its edge, including galingale, and supports a range of insect life. Planting of mixed native woodland and scrub within the park has increased the variety of habitats. Further habitat creation within the park includes planting of mixed native woodland and scrub.
