Wildlife

This is a large park includes woodland, scrub, substantial areas of grassland and a pond. The woodland is mainly ash with oak, horse chestnut, elm and hawthorn. The park contains several veteran oaks, some estimated to be 200-300 years old. The grassland has two areas of planted snakeshead fritillary, a nationally rare species. The scrub in the conservation area is mainly of bramble, privet and great willowherb. The pond is dominated by greater reedmace. The London rarity imperforate St John's-wort is also found on the site. The park is good for butterflies, including a population of white-letter hairstreak. No less than 155 species of birds have been recorded in the park, 45 of which bred in 2006. Three species of bat have been recorded in the conservation area; common pipistrelle, daubenton's bat and noctule.
