Opened in August 1869, Finsbury Park was one of the first of the great London parks landscaped in the Victorian era. It is by far the largest open space in a substantial area of central north London and the New River runs through it. It links with the Parkland Walk which follows the park’s south-western edge, before crossing the East Coast Main Line. Finsbury Park first won the Green Flag Award in 2007 and has retained it ever since. Islington Health Walks and Noel Park Healthy Walkers projects use this site for the Walking the Way to Health (WHI) scheme.

Although the park's wildlife is rather limited, there are plenty of mature trees here and most of the commoner urban birds are present. Uncommon wildflowers occurring in less disturbed corners include lesser chickweed, common whitlow-grass and parsley-piert.Facilities
