Accessible Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation

Inwood Park
Borough: Hounslow
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 5.78 ha

Description

At its western end, this is a fairly typical urban park, with flowerbeds, shrubberies and the usual sports and play facilities. However the eastern end is managed along more natural lines, offering a real sense of countryside in town.

Wildlife

There is a large area of meadow, where clumps of broom and wildflowers such as wild carrot, common knapweed, meadow buttercup and oxeye daisy can be found. Tall hedgerows offer good cover for birds. Woodland of native species has been planted, including oak, ash, wild cherry, silver birch and hazel, plus sycamore that has seeded in naturally. With this excellent mix of habitats the park now attracts a good range of birds, such as song thrush, house sparrow and the locally uncommon blackcap. Butterflies include the orange tip, brimstone, speckled wood and small tortoiseshell.
