Description

Elthorne Park is a landscaped public park with numerous features of value to a range of common plants and animals. It includes the Philip Noel-Baker Peace Garden – an ornamental walled garden, open during daytime.Across the road, Sunnyside Community Garden has been similarly designed to support common urban wildlife, and includes a small pond. Management of the garden is influenced and partly undertaken by a local community association.Many features across the design of the whole open space have been included to welcome disabled visitors. Islington Golden Walks project uses this site – a Walking the Way to Health (WHI) scheme; see link for details.

Wildlife

Planted native trees include field maple, rowan, hawthorns and holly, which are all important in their various ways as sources of food for birds, butterflies and other insects. The Philip Noel-Baker Peace Garden is planted with an eclectic mix of exotic shrubs and flowers including many aromatic culinary herbs.
