Borough: Islington
Grade: Local
Access: Free public access (all/most of site)
Area: 0.5 ha

Description

The shrubbery in this small park off a busy road provides nesting cover for an unusually wide variety of breeding birds. The site has a quiet, secluded atmosphere, with the surrounding houses providing a buffer from the noise of nearby traffic.

Wildlife

The dense shrubbery that gives this small park its name consists largely of hawthorn with small amounts of wych elm and varnish-tree, and a thick carpet of ivy. It provides nesting cover for wrens, blackbirds, song thrushes, dunnocks and robins - quite a variety of breeding birds for such a small urban park. There are a good number of trees in the park and these include mature horse-chestnut, false acacia, limes, ornamental cherries and sycamores.

Facilities
